Apple has formally entered the foldable phone category. Its announcement describes a compact outer experience that opens into a larger canvas, with iOS 27 adapted for the changing display size rather than simply scaling a conventional phone interface.

Two displays, one software challenge

The 5.4-inch outer display handles familiar phone tasks while the 7.6-inch inner display is designed for reading, viewing and multitasking. Apple says Split View can place two apps together, making software continuity—and not only the hinge—the central test of the device.

Price and timing

In the United States, iPhone Duo starts at $1,999. Preorders begin October 16, 2026, with general availability scheduled for October 23. Those details make this a confirmed launch, not a supply-chain rumor or concept device.
